Bena's Boys
Coach Bena was always working to build and improve the sport of wrestling. Bena's Boys was created by Matt Sitors, Steve Karandy, and Mark Caulfield in 2019 one year after Coach Bena's passing. The year after Coach retired he would call the three "Bena's Boys" as a term of affection when they would work to keep his traditions going at Duanesburg. The group creates shirts to celebrate his legacy and keep it rolling. Shirts are $30 and proceeds will go towards helping wrestlers in the offseason in Section 2 that embodies what values he instilled on his wrestlers.
A candidate for the Bena's Boys award possesses a positive attitude, strong work ethic and epitomizes the meaning of good sportsmanship. This candidate also embodies the values that Coach Bena taught which include dedication, grit, hard-work, and resilience. Starting in 2023, the Bena's Boys award will be given at the Friends of Section 2 Wrestling Banquet in March.
